چکیده

Everything that became part of the primitive solar nebula first passed through the interstellar medium and the dense molecular cloud from which the nebula collapsed. We begin with a brief discussion of the connection between dense molecular clouds and the formation of solar-type stars. We then review processes that occur in these environments in order to constrain the chemical and physical properties of the matter that might still be preserved in primitive meteorites and that was the source material for every asteroid, comet, moon, and planet that exists at the present time in our own or in any other planetary system. Much of this history may be completely overprinted via processes occurring in the nebula itself or in larger planetary bodies, yet some signatures, such as those carried by isotopes of H, O, or N can be much more persistent.

Origin and Evolution of Dust in Circumstellar and Interstellar Environments

Astronomical observations and analysis of stardust isolated from meteorites have revealed a highly diverse interstellar and circumstellar grain inventory, including both amorphous materials and highly crystalline compounds (oxides, silicates and carbonaceous). This dust is highly processed during its sojourn from its birthsite (stellar outflows and supernova explosions) to its incorporation int...

Biomolecules in the Interstellar Medium and in Comets

We review recent studies of organic molecule formation in dense molecular clouds and in comets. We summarise the known organic inventories of molecular clouds and recent comets, particularly Hale-Bopp. The principal chemical formation pathways involving gas phase reactions, as well as formation by catalytic reactions on grain surfaces or through dust fragmentation, are identified for both dense...

Titan and the cosmochemistry of the outer solar system

Modeling of physical and chemical processes in solar nebula environments is applied to the data base of gases in Halley's comet to infer the conditions under which that comet formed. Assuming that the chemistry in the inner nebula is catalyzed by reactions on grains, the abundances of the volatile carbon species CR4, CO, and C02 in Halley could have been supplied by the solar nebula. The NH3 ab...

Synthesis of refractory organic matter in the ionized gas phase of the solar nebula.

In the nascent solar system, primitive organic matter was a major contributor of volatile elements to planetary bodies, and could have played a key role in the development of the biosphere. However, the origin of primitive organics is poorly understood. Most scenarios advocate cold synthesis in the interstellar medium or in the outer solar system. Here, we report the synthesis of solid organics...
